The Listening Program

In children, auditory problems may be identified by speech and language problems, sensitivity to sounds, poor attention, difficulty following directions, difficulty expressing oneself, difficulty with listening comprehension as well as reading comprehension, difficulty with social interactions, or auditory self-stimulation, such as constant humming or self-talk. Children who have had a history of ear infections or chronic middle ear fluid are at a higher risk for having difficulties in auditory perception and processing.

The Listening Program Classic Kit, Level One Kit, and Level One Kit with Nature Sounds are music-based auditory stimulation methods that train the brain and improve the auditory skills we need for effective listening, learning and communication. The Listening Program benefits people of all ages starting as young as age two.

Each Listening Program CD contains four progressive 15 minute segments of specially engineered classical music. Specific sections of the music are treated with filtration and audio bursting at gradually increasing levels through the CD series. These techniques are the basis for auditory processing retraining.

The Listening Program listening schedule is 30 minutes per day, 5 days a week. You can conveniently complete the program in the comfort of your home, school or office.

Auditory Processing Problems

When sounds enter the ear, they first come to the eardrum. Like a musical drum, it needs to be stretched. That is done by two tiny muscles. If they are too weak, because of recurring ear infections, for example, sounds do not enter the inner ear well, but are distorted.

The Listening Program (TLP) uses advantages of the plasticity factor, a term scientists use to describe the brain’s amazing ability to constantly change its structure and function in response to experiences coming in from the outside. Listening to the CD’s in TLP literally exercises and tones tiny muscles in the ear and helps build stronger multi-sensory pathways in the brain. As a result, the brain receives rich auditory stimulation and its ability to process sound improves.

TLP is designed to help balance, strengthen and restore our ability to listen to and process sounds across the full auditory spectrum, from 20hz to 20,000hz. This can result in striking improvements from academic performance to emotional balance.
